Biography
Paul Bresciani is the Principal Bassist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Born and raised in Napa,
California, he then attended Indiana University's School of Music on full scholarship, studying with noted
double bass pedagogues Murray Grodner and Stuart Sankey. In 1985, he earned his Bachelor 's of Music
degree with High Distinction and was awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate for outstanding musicianship.
Prior to his appointment in Buffalo, Paul performed with the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera,
Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the New American Chamber Orchestra. With these
orchestras, he has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, Scandinavia, the Far East, and Israel.
In the summer, Mr. Bresciani performs with the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra.
Paul made his solo
debut at age 16 with the North Bay Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then he has been a featured soloist with
the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the New American Chamber Orchestra,
and Indiana University's University Orchestra. Paul was a prize winner in the 1988 Los Angeles International
Double Bass Competition. He is also a highly sought after chamber musician, having performed at the Pablo Casals,
Väasa, Korshölm, Nordic and Sälsta Chamber Music Festivals. Paul plays on a bass violin made in Milan,
Italy in 1731 by Paulo Antonio Testore.
William Crawford was born in Cuthbert, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees,
both in piano performance, from Indiana University in 1984 and 1986. At Indiana University, he studied piano
with Joseph Rezits and Zadel Skolovsky and chamber music with Franco Gulli and Henryk Kowalski. His early
piano studies were with Larry L. Belt of Andrew College where he performed his first solo piano recital at age
twelve. William graduated from Harvard Law School in 1989. He is presently a partner with the firm of Wyche, Burgess, Freeman & Parham, P.A. representing public and private corporations in corporate, securities, corporate finance and acquisition transactions. He
continues to perform with chamber music groups in South Carolina.
